Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

After being run out of Boneville, the three Bone cousins — Fone Bone, Phoney Bone, and Smiley Bone — are separated and lost in a vast, uncharted desert. One by one, they find their way into a deep forested valley filled with wonderful and terrifying creatures. It will be the longest — but funniest — year of their lives.

Winner of nine Harvey Awards and nine Eisner Awards, including "Best Cartoonist" and "Best Humor Publication," as well as being named "Best Comic Book" by the National Cartoonists Society, Bone is presented here in its entirety, in one volume.

Review:

"Bone is storytelling at its best, full of endearing, flawed characters whose adventures run the gamut from hilarious whimsy to thrilling drama. Along the way, Smith's musings...take on a greater relevance than you'd ever expect. (Grade: A)" Entertainment Weekly

Review:

"Combining the instant gratification of strong cartooning with the deep engagement of epic storytelling...Bone has becomes the best all-ages graphic novel yet published....Bone now deserves to go from hipster cult item to mainstream literary success." Andrew D. Arnold, Time.Com

Review:

"The compilation makes it evident how fully formed Smith's vision was from the very beginning....His remarkably accomplished drawing style, in the manner of such comics masters as Walt Kelly and Carl Barks, was fully formed from the start, too." Booklist (Starred Review)

Review:

"Charming, character-driven fantasy with an elegant design and masterful story-telling in the tradition of Walt Kelly, Charles Schulz, and Carl Barks." Publishers Weekly

Review:

"Bone has the multi-level writing and artwork of the best Chuck Jones cartoons or early Disney movies. It's overflowing with subtext about conflicting philosophies of power, cultural imperialism, and political responsibility — though not enough to get in the way of its silly fun." CMJ New Music Monthly

Review:

"[This] sprawling, mythic comic is spectacular." Spin Magazine

I waited almost 10 years to finish Jeff Smith's story of the Bone cousins, and once I did, I regretted being done because I wanted to know more. Written with humor, sadness, and lessons in compassion, family bonds, and humility, this tale is great for all ages and a rare gem.

Bone was the most exciting graphic noval I have ever read. It starts out slow but it pick up so fast I didn't want to stop reading. This is a funny good book that will make you have a smile on your face when you finish. This book will pick you up and it's easy to follow. Make sure you have someone to pull you out of the story. If you read this to you children I bet it would make a good story. I loved this graphic noval series.
