About the Author

Eliot Coleman is one of America's leading practitioners of organic gardening and farming. I've had this book for over six years and it's still one of my top-shelfers. Full of useful, easy-to-understand information, perfect for the beginner to try in the garden immediately.

What I like best: fun stories, clear language, and helpful pictures, tips for planning and problem-solving, and encouragement to use (and reuse) materials at-hand.

This is the book that got us started growing our own vegetables successfully at home. Especially appreciate the information for winter vegetable growing.

We used the info and pictures in this book to build several of our own cold frames, each of which have produced years of yummy fruits, veggies, and flowers (using mostly materials we had saved 'behind the shed').
