Synopses & ReviewsPublisher Comments:"Each turn of the page unfolds a documentary of a blossoming artist". - City Pages
"His sincerity makes it exceedingly difficult for the reader not to share a profound affinity with the characters in its Bay Area milieu". - Washington Square News After selling over 8,000 copies in two printings, Adrian Tomine's "32 Stories", is back in a new third printing! Tomine brings a refreshingly literate sensibility to the comic book medium and it is evident even in his earliest work. As a college student, Tomine wrote and illustrated a number of remarkably versatile short stories, ranging from a biography of Jack Kerouac to a series of loosely autobiographical strips. At the time, Tomine self published these stories in a series of seven "mini-comics" and these original strips serve as the basis for this collection. Synopsis:The comics that first launched Tomine into his luminary career, in a special-edition box set Redesigned to coincide with the release of Shortcomings in paperback is a brand-new edition of Adrian Tomines first book, 32 Stories, that collects his inaugural mini-comics in a special edition. This onetime printing includes facsimile reprints of the seven mini-comics packaged in a slipcase, as well as an additional pamphlet containing a new introduction and notes by Tomine. Synopsis:In 1991, Adrian Tomine self-published the first issue of Optic Nerve. Consisting of three xeroxed sheets of paper, and with a print run of twenty-five, it was a less-than-auspicious, largely unnoticed debut. In the following three years, though, Optic Nerve developed at a startlingly rapid pace: the artwork and writing evolved with each story, production quality improved, page counts increased, and by issue seven, sales had reached 6,000. In 1994, Drawn & Quarterly took over the publishing duties of Optic Nerve, and the original seven issues sold out and were left out of print. 32 stories presents these rare, early editions, collected for the first time in a single volume. About the AuthorAdrian Tomine was born May 31st, 1974 in Sacramento, California. His uneventful childhood was spent in various small towns along the West Coast. He currently resides in Berkeley, where he studies English at the University of California and continues to write and draw Optic Nerve.
