Hoffer and Prousky do a very good job of presenting the strong case for a nutritional approach to good mental and physical health and a more informed rationale for avoiding the monotonous and nutritionally-devalued traditional modern diet. He takes a novel look at what happens as food is deconstructed and then never put back together, except in haphazard proportions with no scientific basis. He amply covers the basic principles for eating whole, fresh foods and a well-rounded, low-worry diet. With over 50 years of research and application using a more natural, 'orthomolecular' approach to treating ailments of the mind and body, Dr. Abram Hoffer has created an advanced applied manual of how to treat many conditions successfully with vitamins, minerals, and other non-drug substances, on top of eating well. He is definitely not dogmatic, as he integrates a judicious amount of traditional medicines into his treatments as needed. This book is smooth and easy reading and totally user friendly for the uninformed public, but contains valuable technical information that one would be hard-put to find anywhere else, short of seeing an expensive specialist or three. The section on vitamins is worth the price of admission alone. A high recommendation. [Contains some missing words and seeming non-sequiturs, but the nonogenarian major author remains surprisingly sharp and lucid throughout].
