Kodocha Sanas Stage Volume 1by Miho Obana
Synopses & Reviews
Take one young actress used to getting her way, add a handful of ruthless bullies, some humorous twists, and a plastic toy hammer, and you've got the recipe for one crazy story! Kodocha follows the antics of Sana, a spoiled 11-year-old TV star, and Hayama, a sixth-grade Machiavelli who terrorizes the teachers and his classmates. In their war of wills in the classroom, Sana and Hayama find there is more to both of them than meets the eye.
Sana gets a part in a TV movie, costarring with a hot new actress, but she'll never get to the studio if she can't survive the bullies at school. Akito "the Demon" Hayama continues his reign of terror so Sana comes up with a crazy plot to put him in his place. Sana takes advantage of Akito's fear of heights and challenges him to a bungee-jumping contest! Maybe the world's biggest bully will finally back down.
About the Author
Miho Obana made her debut in Shueisha's Ribon Magazine in the Fall of 1991 with Mado no Mukou. In addition to Kodocha, which was originally published in Japan as Kodoma no Omocha, she has five series to her credit and has published more than 10 other manga short stories. Her most recent, Andante, is a monthly manga currently running in Ribon.
Sana Kurata is an 11-year-old actress who, by the way, is insane. Not literally, but her histrionics may make you think otherwise. It's not her fault, though. Like all young stars, she's used to being waited on hand and foot. Her mother dotes on her, and her personal manager, Rei, does whatever she says.
But no amount of pampering prepares Sana for the new boy at school, Akito Hayama. He turns their classroom into his own personal playground by organizing the other students in blackmailing and threatening teachers.
Sana's histrionics go into overdrive and she is the only one to stand up to Hayama as he leads the other boys in class on rampages that include assaulting the girls with paint-filled squirt guns. But over the course of their war of wills, Sana learns there is more to the cool-headed Hayama than first meets the eye. There's a sad past that has made the icy cool sixth-grade Machiavelli the terror that he is.
