Synopses & ReviewsPublisher Comments:A challenge to fundamentally rethink the basis of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict today. This thought-provoking analysis — written by a Palestinian and Israeli who collaborate together to challenge the dominant understanding of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict — shows how the apartheid-like conditions of Palestinians today have deep roots in the history of Israel. The only book of its kind to be written jointly by an Israeli, who fought in the Palmach to establish the state of Israel in 1948, and a Palestinian. Book News Annotation:Founded shortly after the eruption of the Al Aqsa Intifada in late
September 2000 and published regularly until September 2003, the now
defunct political journal Between the Lines published pieces by
Palestinians, Israelis, and others in an effort to correct
informational, ideological, and contextual distortions of the
Israeli-Palestine situation, which in the view of editors Honig-
Parnass, a Jewish Israeli, and Haddad, a Palestinian American, is
best characterized as a struggle between a Zionist colonization
project embodied by the Israeli state and a colonized population of
Palestinians on both sides of the Green Line separating Israel proper
from the Occupied Territories. This volume collects articles from the
pages of Between the Lines, providing analysis of both concurrent
events and historical background and covering such topics as
political fissures amongst the Palestinians, the unifying ideology of
Zionist left and right, the meaning of Israeli election results, the
regional implications of the US invasion and occupation of Iraq. Of
the 33 articles presented, a number were penned following the demise
of Between the Lines and thus include discussion of more recent
events such as the death of Yasser Arafat and the electoral victory
of Hamas.
