MELobnitz, June 6, 2014 (view all comments by MELobnitz)
Compiled from stories submitted as part of the celebration of Oregon's 150th year of statehood, this collection is filled with more than 150 narratives from Oregonians who range in age and experience. Although the volume is plentiful, it provides a fast-paced, engaging read, since the stories are short and arranged in appealing sections. The sections of the collection, “Destination Oregon,” “Outdoor Oregon,” “Young Oregon,” and “Historic Oregon,” combine to provide an interesting overview of the state from many perspectives.

From the impressions of people as they saw Oregon for the first time to those who connect with its landscape in a meaningful way, and from the experiences of those who spent their youth in Oregon communities to those who offer perspective about issues of historical relevance to the state, this collection truly has something for everyone. This is the perfect book for commuting or for vacation reading; there is a great deal of content, but each story is complete and can be read with or independently of the others. The collection Oregon Stories is a treasure for anyone who wants to connect with the unique cultural and social landscape of the beautiful state.
