Ten stories from ten excellent writers, including Wells Tower, Chris Bachelder, Ann Beattie, and other agile talents bringing visions of the Dallas/Fort Worth fake-watch trade and Papua New Guinea in the 1960s. Every story gets its own front and back cover, drawn, collaged, or embroidered by the polymathic Andrea Dezsö. The whole thing is wrapped in a jacket that unfolds into five square feet of double-sided glory — spread it out one way for dozens of very short stories by Dave Eggers, arranged in what we're pretty sure is a volvelle; flip it over and witness all those Dezsö illustrations stitched into one unbroken expanse.

Synopsis:

McSweeney's began as a literary journal which published only works rejected from other magazines. After the first issue, the journal began to publish pieces written with McSweeney's in mind, attracting works from some of the finest writers in the country and many new talents. The journal is committed to finding new voices, publishing work of gifted but underappreciated writers, and pushing the literary form forward at all times.

Hi there all you McSweeney's fans:
I'm sure you are as anxious as I was to get a peek at what crazy new design the McSweeney's team has prepared to wow us with in this latest issue.
I wanted to make a clarification that hopefully soon will be picked up by others in order to correct this faux pas in our listing.
"What we are pretty sure is a volvelle", is not, in fact, a volvelle. "A volvelle (French, meaning to turn) is a paper disc in a book that when rotated can be used as a tool for calculations or other less scientific purposes, such as fortune telling. When the glorious expanse of the new issue is revealed, the layout is similar to how a volvelle would be designed; pie slices of text or other printings. If this issue were to be attached to a base by a connector in the middle allowing it to spin, then it would be a volvelle. Currently, not.
