Publisher Comments:

The quest for the stolen chalice is a sham - her family's excuse to get rid of Tevi. Exiled in a dangerous and confusing world filled with monsters, bandits, and sorcerers, Tevi battles demons within and without as she searches for her place in the strange new world.

Jemeryl has her future planned out - a future that will involve minimal contact with ordinary folk who do not understand sorcerers. Her ambition is to lead a solitary life within the Coven and to devote herself to the study of magic. It is all very straightforward - until she meets Tevi.

Two unlikely allies join forces to defeat an insidious evil and on the journey find one another.

This is the first half of a book originally published by Fortitude Press, called "Lorimal's Chalice" (Gaylactic Spectrum Award finalist for best novel of 2003) The second half of "Lorimal's Chalice" is "Lyremouth Chronicles #2: The Traitor and the Chalice".

In this first book in the Lyremouth series, we are introduced to Tevi and Jemeryl. Two very different and likable characters. Well developed plot. Interesting events and world. Fletcher's brilliant skill as a storyteller is evident as always, you can't even tell this is one of her earliest works.

Tevi is in line to be queen some day, but she is an embarrassment to her family. She isn't a skillful fighter and doesn't enjoy going to battle. To save her family name, she goes on a quest for a sacred chalice that had been stolen by a large bird. She has no intention of finding the chalice, and her family doesn't expect her to. They just want her gone. Tevi has only known her island home, but when she leaves she finds a whole new world with different rules, different types of people, and even monsters.

Jemeryl is a sorcerer, who is supposed to be watching over a small village. But she just wants to be left alone studying magic, until the day she can return to Lyremouth. She's got her life planned out and orderly. Then one day, a wounded warrior is left at her door.
