Born the son of a bricklayer in 1952, Morgan Tsvangirai became head of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions in the late 1980s and went on to challenge Robert Mugabe in the 2002 Presidential elections. This volume presents interviews conducted with Tsvangirai during July 2004 (shortly before he was acquitted of treason for an alleged plot to assassinate Mugabe). Some of the issues addressed include Zimbabwe's place in the international community; control and prevention of HIV/AIDS; and land reform. Chan teaches international relations at the U. of London's School of Oriental and African Studies.
