Tokyo: 29 Walks in the World's Most Exciting Cityby John H Martin
Synopses & ReviewsPublisher Comments:MORE EDITOR COMMENTS: LP, Frommer's, and the other guides give a lot of space to hotels, restaurants, and shopping, which Tokyo: 34 Walks does not, although in its walks it points out famous and notable department stores, boutiques, and markets as well as areas of interest to shoppers. Outside of Tokyo, Tokyo: 34 Walks has 15 walking tours in 10 different regions within two or three hours train ride from Tokyo, while the other guides offer no walking tours, though they do have "excursions" or "side trips" in 5 regions for LP and 7 for Frommer. At more than 60 maps, Tokyo: 33 Walks has far more than either LP (30) or Frommer's (27). Also, Tokyo: 34 Walks has been updated with the help of a consultant living in Tokyo, so it will be up-to-date for its 2011 publication. The LP and Frommer guides are available in 2010 editions. The others on the comp title list are in older editions (when I researched them on Amazon). Tokyo: 34 Walks has a foldout map. Frommer's has maps only the book. LP has a detachable 14 x 14" pullout map. Synopsis:The Definitive Walking Guide Synopsis:Tokyo: 29 Walks in the World's Most Exciting City is the only guide to the city that is exclusively a walking guide, with lively text full of facts and stories that emphasize the history, culture, architecture and spirit of the city and its neighborhoods. On foot and by train or subway, it takes you through the most fascinating parts of the modern megalopolis, while making the shogun's city—the Edo of samurai and geishas, merchants and artisans—and the outlines of old Tokyo come alive. From famous historical sites like the Imperial Palace to unique attractions like the Tsukiji Fish Market, this book offers something for every visitor.
