Captain Sir Richard Francis Burton (1821-1890) was a brilliant scholar and daring explorer. Henry Reeves called Burton "a man who knows 35 languages & dialects, especially that of pornography." Burton's translation of the 1,001 Nights remains the quintessential classic.
