If Carl Hiaasen set one of his novels on a residential stretch of boundary line between British Columbia and Washington, or if Richard Russo's characters had relatives in the Pacific Northwest, the result might be something like Jim Lynch's Border Songs. Continue »

Publisher Comments:

There are some children born with the title Throw Away Child. These are the children who are not loved, protected, or wanted by their parents. These are the children who wind up as orphans, taken into custody by the state and county governments, and tossed into institutions. These are the children who become the prey of their caretakers?the very people who are paid to care for them.

From 1957 until 1964, I resided in an orphanage known as St. Colman?s Home for boys and girls in Watervliet, New York. I was placed in the care of The Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. I was one of the many children imprisoned there and tortured beyond words. It has taken half a decade for me to be able to think about my childhood, and it has taken every ounce of my courage from the depths of my soul to be able to write and reveal what happened to me there. I share the marvel of the human spirit to adapt and survive in the face of moral depravity and mental, emotional and physical abuse beyond the limits of endurance.

Even at seven years old I knew enough not to ask Santa for toys for Christmas. I asked him for new parents, someone to love and care for me. Journey with me through the halls of my memories of childhood abuse at the hands of a closed society of Catholic nuns. Read about the lengths to which the nuns went to silence the victims. My story and the stories of many of my fellow surviving orphans, in their own words, are shared within. These orphans span five generations of victims. These are the stories of the abuse suffered at the hands of the Holy Roman Catholic BRIDES OF CHRIST.
