Up Dog Street and Left on Shadowsby Iris Optaciana
Synopses & ReviewsPublisher Comments:How to justify the madness that takes hold from Raspado de Coco to Agua Dulce, when Jura, Carlo Cristiano's dog, is rescued by the Coast Guard and ends up in the hands of the boys from bertown? Yes, it was a foreseeable tragedy, given South Florida's isolated evolution. Decades of benevolent Yankee neglect and liberal pandering have fostered a new man-one inclined to double speak, to waving commie flags on cue and to patting himself on the back for draining this swamp and making it look like Madruga. Mucha muela, since most of these abuelos are fossil evidence of just one thing: a State of the Union imperiled. Of course, it's even worse for Jura's masters in Madruga. Carlo's been attacked by crazed Caleros, and Sophia's been kidnapped from Sabana airport. It's obvious now; they're in Alex Tenedor's murderous clutches and as usual, Madruga's Fhrer is conjuring a monstrous scheme and intending for Act 2 to play out in South Florida. This diverting novel of political satire from Cuban-American attorney Iris Optaciana offers an incisive commentary on life and death in Communist Madruga, as Carlo follows the trail of his missing canine companion from the bloody slaughterhouses of the Caribbean island nation and unto Miami's misnamed streets. Author Bio. Iris Optaciana The author, who uses his mother's first and middle names as his nom de guerre in his literary defense of democracy, was one of fourteen thousand children smuggled out of Cuba via a clandestine operation known as Operacion Pedro Pan. He subsequently lived for three years in a Montana orphanage, until reunited with his parents. He holds a bachelor's degree in political science from Florida International University, a lawdegree from Fordham University in New York, and is a member of the New York and Florida bars. He lives with his wife, their two sons and his parents, along with dogs Shiloh and Jura, in Weeki Wachee, Florida. Synopsis:In this diverting novel of political satire, a Cuban-American attorney offers an incisive commentary on life and death in Communist Madruga, as Carlo follows the trail of his missing canine companion from the bloody slaughterhouses of the Caribbean island nation and unto Miamis misnamed streets.
