Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

I'm a fabulist by trade, warns Gabriel Noone, a late-night radio storyteller, as he begins to untangle the skeins of his tumultuous life: his crumbling ten-year love affair, his disaffection from his Southern father, his longtime weakness for ignoring reality. Gabriel's most sympathetic listener is Pete Lomax, a thirteen-year-old fan in Wisconsin whose own horrific past has left him wise and generous beyond his years. But when this virtual father-son relationship is rocked by doubt, a desperate search for the truth ensues. Welcome to the complex, vertiginous world of The Night Listener.

Synopsis:

Gabriel Noone forms a bond with a young, troubled listener to his late-night radio show. As Noone's friendship with the dying boy grows, he feels he can unlock his innermost feelings. But troubling questions arise, and he is forced to confront all his relationships - familial, romantic and erotic.

Synopsis:

The first title from the creator of "Tales of the City" in eight years, which was uniformly well-received in hardcover. We're expecting even better sales of this paperback edition. "His most mature, mellow and moving novel yet" "The Independent".

Twists and turns in the plot leave a slight hesitancy in knowing what exactly did happen. A story of fanily love, self-challenges, and human foibles. Engaging. I read Maupin 20 or so years ago and was delighted to find another story.
