Publisher Comments:

"How can you buy the sky? How can you own the rain and the wind?"

So begin the moving words attributed to a great American Indian chief--Chief Seattle--over 100 years ago. They are words that eloquently capture the central belief of Native Americans: that this earth and every creature on it is sacred. It is this belief that inspired Susan Jeffers' extraordinary full-color paintings.

About the Author

Susan Jeffers is the illustrator of such distinguished picture books as Three Jovial Huntsmen, a Caldecott Honor book; Rachel Field's Hitty; and the ABBY Award-winning Brother Eagle, Sister Sky, which was also a New York Times besteller. She lives in New York.

This book took my breath away. Jeffers beautiful illustrations paired with the profound words of Chief Seattle create one of the most beautiful and thought provoking books I've ever experienced. Although created with children in mind, this book can stir readers of any age.
