Don't be fooled by the new versions - the 1997 edition has the same cover. If you want a true comprehensive sewing resource, purchase the 1976 version. I have been sewing for 40 years and currently teach sewing. The 1976 edition of this book is always my fall-back reference. No, it doesn't have photographs, but it has very good illustrations. And no, it doesn't cover all of the latest fabrics and machines. However, for comprehensive basic construction and fabric information, you will not find a better resource in one book. Some of the information contained here I haven't been able to find in any other book - and I have an extensive sewing library. If you purchase only one sewing reference, purchase the 1976 edition of this book.
