London: Edward and Charles Dilly 1777. Two volumes. Royal 4to. Half morocco raised bands gilt decoration on spines. Bookplate of Charles Bosanquet on front paste down of both volumes (Governor of the South Sea Company 1838-50). Half title to volume 1 only with 7 of 8 plates. Text is in French and English as the Earl wrote in French.The Earl of Chesterfield is known for his writings and wit: Whatever is worth doing at all is worth doing well and other sayings of his quoted from his letters have been compiled in Bartlett's and other books of quotations.
