Second Part of the Peoples Antient and Just Liberties Asserted in the Proceedings Against, and Tryals Cover

Condition Notes

London: [no publisher] 1670. 4to. 68pp. Modern crimson morocco. Trimmed close at upper margin, small hole in last leaf not affecting text. In August 1670 William Penn was locked out of the Gracechurch Street Meetinghouse by the government. He preached in the street that day and was arrested along with William Meade. Their trial and the subsequent refusal of the jury to convict - even after their own imprisonment - established the independence of the jury in the British legal system. This pamphlet concerns an earlier trial of other Friends including Thomas Rudyard. Scarce. Wing S2312 MPA/kb iot Case 8
