Thanks to a lack of discipline I am not currently eating the Atkins way, but I have tried this way of eating in the past and let me tell you, once I get past the metabolic switchover, I feel SO much better. Bloating disappears, my joints don't hurt, my mood is more even, and the weight just drops off. I prefer to look to my own experiences to tell me how healthy this way of eating is, although research is catching up. I also--are you ready for this?--STILL eat carbohydrates while doing Atkins. Because guess what, you don't have to eat grains to eat carbs. If you have a family history of metabolic disturbance and type 2 diabetes you owe it to yourself to at least try Atkins for a while. Be sure to do it by the book, don't try to second-guess it and water it down with USDA guidelines. You will be amazed.
