Publisher Comments:

Joey Pigza can't sit still. He can't pay attention, he can't follow the rules, and he can't help it — especially when his meds aren't working. Joey's had problems ever since he was born, problems just like his dad and grandma have. And whether he's wreaking havoc on a class trip or swallowing his house key, Joey's problems are getting worse. In fact, his behavior is so off the wall that his teachers are threatening to send him to the special-ed center downtown.

Joey knows he's really a good kid, but no matter how hard he tries to do the right thing, something always seems to go wrong. Will he ever get anything right?

I can't say enough good things about this book! The title is great (I mean, come on, who wouldn't want to read a book with a title like that?) and the writing is excellent.
Joey Pigza is a good kid, but he suffers from severe ADHD, and when he gets wired, he gets out of control. His home life's weird, his teacher doesn't quite get him, and if he doesn't straighten up soon, he's going to have to go to the special ed center downtown instead of his regular school...
Gantos writes about what it feels like to be out of control with so much humor and sympathy. Joey is hilarious at first, the way watching the class clown is hilarious -- you watch his brain go from one thing to another and it gets funnier and funnier, until it goes past the edge of funny and starts to get kind of scary. If you ever wondered what the difference is between a kid who's just kind of antsy and can't sit still, and a kid who truly CAN'T sit still, this is well worth reading.
