Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Because the moon revolves around Earth, it seems to grow and shrink.Children can read about the phenomena of the moon’s phases and with an experiment using an orange, a pencil, and a flashlight, they can see why the moon looks different at different times of the month.‘A welcome addition to science collections for young children.’ —SLJ.

I teach a class of Life Skills students, grade 5 - 8 (intellectual disabilities). I read this book to my students, then acted out how the sun, earth and moon interact, using the illustrations as examples. The students were enthusiastically engaged by the demonstration and the concepts stayed with them.

Note: This book was recommended by staff at the Boston Museum of Science, in preparation for our visit to the planetarium.
