When it was first published in 1967, The Outsiders defied convention with its immediate, deeply sympathetic portrayal of Ponyboy and his struggle to find a place for himself in a difficult world.
Review:
"This remarkable novel gives a moving, credible view of the outsiders from the inside...we meet powerful characters in a book with a powerful message." The Horn Book
Review:
"Taut with tension, filled with drama." The Chicago Tribune

The 45th anniversary of a landmark work of teen fiction
Ponyboy can count on his brothers and his friends, but not on much else besides trouble with the Socs, a vicious gang of rich kids who get away with everything, including beating up greasers like Ponyboy. At least he knows what to expect--until the night someone takes things too far.

This book is an all time favorite and a classic. It is such a touching tale about a group called the greasers which are considered the low life scum of the earth but they're anything but that. Its a must read!!! The movie is just as good as the book and who doesn't love to be able to read a book and watch a movie of it afterwards that's just as awesome. I hope that anyone who hasn't read this does and enjoys it as much as I did and many more before me did. Enjoy!!!

A Heroic story of friendship and belonging
Ponyboy Curtis is the lower-class youth of Oklahoma with no parents and lives with his brothers. The only people he can trust are his brothers and friends, all of which are in a gang called the Greasers because of their long greasy hair. In this book, Ponyboy and his friends stand up for each other like family. Living in violence and lack of money, Ponyboy's grades drop and gets into a lot of fights. One of these fights end up to far and forces Pony to run away. The rest of the book tells of Pony bonding with his best friend that his severely injured in the hospital. All this fighting that happens in this book is mainly for the pride and standing up for your friends and what you believe. This whole story is Pony's story that he writes of his life for an English project for extra credit to boost his grades in school. I would suggest this amazing story to all readers because it has a lot of action that will keep you wanting to read. This book has got to be read!
