This book "HEAT" was a great book. It did many things like teach lessons and showed you a different side of baseball. It taught me how to continue on with my dreams and hope. It gave me a great story about a young boy who could see himself as a famous baseball player. But over all it was a great book, and you should go read this book. "THANKS MR. LUPICA"

I havent read this book yet but just by the summary it made me want to read this book wish me luck Ill tell you if its good or not

The book Heat, by Mike Lupica is about a boy named Michael who is a really good pitcher. Almost every batter he faces strikes out. The story takes place in new York, the Bronx. Michael plays on the fields next to Yankee Stadium, called Macombs Dam Park. This is where he spends a lot of his time and has all of his games. Michael lives down the street at the apartment building at 825Gerard with his brother Carlos. Their Dad used to live with them until he died from a heart attack. Carlos is only seventeen years old so he and Michael have to keep a low profile until Carlos turns eighteen in order to obtain full guardian rights. Next door to them lives Mrs. Cora. She always helps them when ever they need it. Michael’s best friend is Manny Cabrera. He is the catcher for Michael who never stops talking. They have been best friends their whole life. One day while Michael was pitching to Manny and just fooling around, they saw this girl watching them and laughing. They went over to her to see what was so funny and she ran away. A couple of days later she was there again and they found out her name was Ellie Garcia. The next week Michael was watching the Yankees game on television and saw Ellie. It turns out that she is El Grandes daughter. He is the Yankee star pitcher and Michael’s idol. During the story the coaches didn’t believe that Michael was twelve so they filed a complaint about his age. Michael didn’t have his birth certificate so he could no longer play until he found one. Also during the story Michael tells an official person that his Dad is coming home soon so Michael has someone play as his dad.
During this book the author does a great job in showing what he intended to. The author tries to accomplish many things, one thing is that Michael is very poor and has lots of bad things occur to him. But at the same time many good and happy things happen too. The writers attitude toward Michael during the story is kind and helpful. He shows this in the book when Michael was unable to play, he tried his best toward his team to support and help out as much as possible. He contributed to a lot of their wins and accomplishments. The theme of the story is that many bad things happen in your life but it is important to focus on the good things.
There were many important quotes during this book. One of them was, "Eight-zero.". Manny tells Michael this every time they pitch and catch with each other. No little league pitcher has ever pitched that fast before and Michael has a very good chance. Another important quote in the book is, "El gato Misifuz. Vamos a ver quien va a tocanlea Misifuz el corazon, para reir, para cantar, para bailar. Las cosas so realimente malas . . ." Michael sung this song to get El Grandes attention so he could give him a note to give to Ellie. This is also a very famous song from Havana, Cuba.
This was a very good book. The part of the book that I liked the most was that everything turned up for Michael. He got everything he wanted. The part that I didn’t like was that at the end on the book, it felt like there was more to be said. It didn’t seem like the story was ended. I will always remember this book and it will stay with me forever as well as everyone that reads it. I felt that the author created a great story and accomplished all of his goals. I would recommend this book to all baseball lovers and to all that love a great story.
