Publisher Comments:

The greatest superpower of all isn't to be part spider, part man, or to cast magic spells — the greatest power is the power to create.

Daniel has that power.

Daniel's secret abilities — like being able to manipulate objects and animals with his mind or to recreate himself in any shape he chooses — have helped him survive. But Daniel doesn't have a normal life. He is the protector of the earth, the Alien Hunter, with a mission beyond what anyone could imagine.

Daniel X works alone. Having watched from the shadows as the brutal murder of his own parents unfolded before him, he has been forced to make his own way in a dark and unforgiving world with a heavy task handed to him.

Daniel's father was an alien hunter, working his way through a fearsome "wanted" list of aliens intent on seeking control and wreaking devastation. But as he planned his next target, his own time was running out. Following his parents' sudden deaths, Daniel faced an uncertain future: he knew little about his family nor where he came from but a few things were clear, he had inherited the list from his father and a unique ability to create anything that he needs including some very devoted friends to help him along the way.

His life has become dedicated to the mission. Every day has been transformed into a terrifying hunt, watching each step he takes for danger awaits around every corner and lurks within the shadows. His ultimate aim is to exact revenge against number 1 on his list: his parents' murderer. But first he must target the others: each more sinister and gruesome than the last.

Review:

"Billed as a story 'for readers from ten to a hundred and ten,' this YA novel from bestseller Patterson (Maximum Ride) and collaborator Ledwidge (The Quickie), the fifth entry in the James Patterson Pageturners series, blends Harry Potter and Men in Black with results likely to please only die-hard Patterson fans. In the beginning, an alien six-and-a-half-foot-tall praying mantis known as 'The Prayer' kills the parents of Daniel X, the titular hero, in the course of its search for 'The List,' a catalogue of 'Alien Outlaws' plaguing Earth. Daniel, who can transform himself and alter reality, escapes by assuming the form of a tick, and succeeds in retrieving the list. A dozen years later, as a full-fledged 'Alien Hunter,' Daniel is traveling around the U.S., supporting himself and his gourmet appetites in an unspecified manner ('I didn't want to go crazy, so I settled on a rosemary-crusted rack of lamb with truffle-spiked potato puree'). Working his way up the list, Daniel prepares to take on 'Number 6,' Ergent Seth, before that monster can destroy Earth. Their climactic battle is as derivative as the rest of the book. Those used to a richly-imagined alternate world, developed characters and sophisticated plotting may have trouble getting past the first few chapters. Ages 8-up" Publishers Weekly (Copyright Reed Business Information, Inc.)

In the spirit of the most enduring hit movies and books, James Patterson has written this story for readers from ten to a hundred and ten.

Synopsis:

Yes, it's true: Daniel X is special. X-traordinarily special.

He may be just a kid, but Daniel is strong enough to fight anything in the world. And it's a good thing, because not many guys you meet have a host of deadly criminals hunting them to the ends of the Earth. And none of them are extraterrestrials.

Daniel is the only one who might be able to eliminate every last intergalactic evil on the List of Alien Outlaws on Terra Firma. Because the greatest superpower isn't to be part spider and part man, or to cast magic spells - the ultimate gift is the power to create.

This novel was a decent read very well played out toward the younger to mid teens not so much toward the mid to later teens. Don't get me wrong it's definately worth reading, just i would reccomend it to my 8 yr old neice rather than to my siblings if for no other reason than the content as well as length.

James Patterson has written a witty and exciting book that would appeal to not only those who enjoyed his "Maximum Ride" series, but also to those who just love a good adventure. It's a book that can have you laughing out loud in one instant, an in the next, have your heart racing in suspense.
