Bad Monkey (Knopf) has Carl Hiaasen back doing what he does best: spinning a wickedly funny, fiercely pointed tale in which the greedy, the corrupt, and the degraders of pristine land in Florida — now, in the Bahamas too — get their comeuppance in ingenious, diabolically entertaining fashion.

Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Mrs. Bunny Starch, the most feared biology teacher ever, was last seen during a field trip to Black Vine Swamp. The school's headmaster and the police seem to have accepted the sketchy, unsigned note explaining that her absence is due to a "family emergency." There's no real evidence of foul play. But still, Nick and Marta don't buy it. Something weird is definitely going on.

Review:

"Hiaasen's gumbo tastes a lot like his previous efforts, pitting conservation against reckless greed and setting the can-do of youth among determined Floridian quirkiness. But there's a reason why a recipe tastes so good time and again." Booklist

Synopsis:

Bestselling author and columnist Carl Hiaasen returns with another hysterical mystery for kids set in Florida's Everglades.

Bunny Starch, the most feared biology teacher ever, is missing. She disappeared after a school field trip to Black Vine Swamp. And, to be honest, the kids in her class are relieved.

But when the principal tries to tell the students that Mrs. Starch has been called away on a "family emergency," Nick and Marta just don't buy it. No, they figure the class delinquent, Smoke, has something to do with her disappearance.

And he does! But not in the way they think. There's a lot more going on in Black Vine Swamp than any one player in this twisted tale can see. And Nick and Marta will have to reckon with an eccentric eco-avenger, a stuffed rat named Chelsea, a wannabe Texas oilman, a singing substitute teacher, and a ticked-off Florida panther before they really begin to see the big picture.

That's life in the swamp, kids.

Scat lets just say it was a pretty good book!!! Scat is about this boy named, Nick who is on a mission with his friend named, Marta to find his teacher, Ms.Starch. I don’t think they know what they are in for but I can’t give out too much. Nick also has another life other than helping his teacher and the environment. His dad is in Iraq fighting for our country, when Nick gets some good news and bad. It’s pretty shocking what Nick goes through. So that’s the good review the bad thing what I really didn’t like about this book was that in the previous books, hoot, and flush was that there was always a bully in scat there really isn't a bully other than Ms. Starch lol, but after in my opinion Scat is on the top charts of the book I’ve read. Along with the other Carl Hiaasen books. I really do recommend this book to everyone that likes an adventure and loves!!!! The environment so if you want to read this go ahead.
