Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

With the same wicked humor and delicious charm that have won her millions of devoted fans, Sophie Kinsella, author of the #1 New York Times bestseller Shopaholic & Baby, returns with an irresistible new novel and a fresh new heroine who finds herself in a life-changing and utterly hilarious predicament.

When 28-year-old Lexi Smart wakes up in a London hospital, she's in for a big surprise. Her teeth are perfect. Her body is toned. Her handbag is Vuitton. Having survived a car accident — in a Mercedes no less — Lexi has lost a big chunk of her memory, three years to be exact, and she's about to find out just how much things have changed.

Somehow Lexi went from a 25-year-old working girl to a corporate big shot with a sleek new loft, a personal assistant, a carb-free diet, and a set of glamorous new friends. And who is this gorgeous husband — who also happens to be a multimillionaire? With her mind still stuck three years in reverse, Lexi greets this brave new world determined to be the person she... well, seems to be. That is, until an adorably disheveled architect drops the biggest bombshell of all.

Suddenly Lexi is scrambling to catch her balance. Her new life, it turns out, comes complete with secrets, schemes, and intrigue. How on earth did all this happen? Will she ever remember? And what will happen when she does?

Review:

"Shopaholic powerhouse Kinsella delights again with her latest, a winning if unoriginal tale of amnesia striking an ambitious shrew and changing her life for the better. After taking a nasty bump on the head, Lexi Smart awakens in a hospital convinced that it's 2004 and that she's just missed her father's funeral. It's actually three years later, and she no longer has crooked teeth, frizzy hair and a loser boyfriend. Initially wowed by what she's become — a gorgeous, cut-throat businesswoman — Lexi soon finds herself attempting to figure out how it happened. As her personality change and lost memory threaten her job, Lexi tries to dredge up some chemistry with her handsome albeit priggish husband, Eric, though the effort is unnecessary with Eric's colleague Jon, who tells Lexi that she was about to leave Eric for him. Amnesia tales may be old hat, but Kinsella keeps things fresh and frothy with workplace politicking, romantic intrigue and a vibrant (though sometimes caricatured) cast. Though the happy ending won't come as a surprise, readers will be rooting for Lexi all along." Publishers Weekly (Copyright Reed Business Information, Inc.)

First off, I simply adore the charming Becky Bloomwood & the Shopaholic series. Remember Me just didn't do it for me.

I found myself distracted & bored. I struggled to finish it. I must admit, I wanted to return it to Barnes & Noble after reading the first few pages.

I really wanted to love it... I didn't. I wanted to like it... not so much.

I found it to be like lukewarm soup on a blustery day.

Lexi Smart annoyed me. I wondered where the fun, lovable, naturally charming characters Sophie Kinsella brings to her zany novels were hiding.

I wasn't looking for a thinly veiled Becky, but give me something.

I questioned Lexi quite a bit. Lexi's big change didn't seem believable. It just seemed forced.

Sophie definitely did her research on amnesia, but she should of developed Lexi a bit more.

Remember Me is not one of Sophie Kinsella's best novels & Lexi is not one of her best characters.

Definitely not worth the $$$ I spent for the hardcover.

Fans of Kinsella's will no doubt add this to their shelves.

Though not up to the caliber of Kinsella's Shopaholic books, this book was enjoyable and engaging enough for me to finish in 2 days. It contains a little of the farfetchedness of the Shopaholic books and the Undomestic Goddess where the protagonist sometimes just can't tell the truth and must pretend to be something she isn't, which I sometimes find just a little annoying.

A woman awakens in the hospital, only to be told that although the last thing she remembers is falling outside a bar the night before her father's funeral, three years have actually passed since that night. This blip in her memory comes with bigger changes--it turns out that in the last three years she has completely changed her life. From a Bridget Jones-type, office worker, funny frump...to a high-powered, coiffed, carbohydrate-free company manager, and married too. What happened?
And that's the book.
Cute, especially if you enjoyed her "Shopoholic" series.
