From Dead to Worse, the eighth Sookie Stackhouse book by Charlaine Harris, is funny, sexy, sassy, and full of surprises. This series is one of my favorites because Harris creates such a plausible alternate reality. Her main character, Sookie, can't seem to keep a man — undead or otherwise — and the supernatural side of her life keeps getting more and more complicated. In From Dead to Worse, Sookie, as usual, just wants to lead a normal life, but the weres and the vampires, as well as her fairy grandfather, have other ideas. Sookie is a delightful character, full of charm and vulnerability, yet able to take on some pretty tough bad guys. Harris's believable cast of supernatural characters keeps the reading coming back for more of her exciting world.

Publisher Comments:

New in the "addicting" New York Times bestselling series featuring Sookie Stackhouse.

After the natural disaster of Hurricane Katrina and the manmade explosion at the vampire summit, everyone — human and otherwise — is stressed, including Louisiana cocktail waitress Sookie Stackhouse, who is trying to cope with the fact that her boyfriend Quinn has gone missing.

It's clear that things are changing — whether the weres and vamps of her corner of Louisiana like it or not. And Sookie — Friend to the Pack and blood-bonded to Eric Northman, leader of the local vampire community — is caught up in the changes.

In the ensuing battles, Sookie faces danger, death, and once more, betrayal by someone she loves. And when the fur has finished flying and the cold blood finished flowing, her world will be forever altered.

Review:

"Sookie's fans will love this addition to the Southern Vampire Mysteries series." Library Journal

Review:

"A thoroughly engaging series." Locus

Review:

"A style that's much more fun than Anne Rice." Monroe (LA) News-Star

The latest novel in the Sookie Stackhouse series. Charlaine Harris does a great job of straddling the line between literature and trash. On the one hand, the novels are pure fun--compelling page-turners that will have you canceling plans to finish. On the other hand, the characters are consistent and have depth, and the writing is good enough to keep me coming back for more.

I found these books right after the first season of the television show ended, and I started them because I liked the show. But now, I'm positively addicted to the books.

Non-stop from beginning to end. Another shining example of what Charlaine Harris does best. Her most delightful book yet with just the right mix of action, drama and comedy. She's outdone herself this time. Leaves you wanting more.
