Publisher Comments:

ALCOHOL: The number one drug of choice for America's youth. Throughout his college years, Toren Volkmann partied like there was no tomorrow. And like so many parents, his mother, Chris, overlooked Toren's growing alcohol problem. But when he graduated, Toren realized that he had become a full-blown alcoholic with a college diploma. Written from the viewpoints of both mother and son, this is a riveting, enlightening, and heartbreakingly true story of a family that was able to confront the fear, pain, and denial that threatened to destroy them-and survive the epidemic of teenage drinking that is putting America's future at risk.

About the Author

From Binge to Blackout: A Mother and Son?s Struggle with Teen Drinking ? Chris Volkmann & Toren Volkman: 410 pages. This is a well-written and thoughtful account of a family?s battle with teen alcoholism. Chapters are divided by first-person narratives detailing the story of Toern Volkman?s discovery that he is an alcoholic and efforts to conquer this devastating and misunderstood disease. Toren offers a thoughtful and lively account of his internal struggle. Chapters written by Toren?s mother, Chris, offer a viewpoint of a parent?s attempt to comprehend what has happened and if it could have been prevented. While a highly personal story, this story is also a resource that will assist readers understand the universal threats of alcoholism, signs of problems, and how the devastating consequences of this disease can be met. I highly recommend this informative and sympathetic book. (Non Fiction/Autobiography) ****
