If you are unaffiliated or Conservative/Reform but are considering adopting some aspects of a more traditional Jewish life style, then "To Be a Jew: A Guide to Jewish Observance in Contemporary Life" is a good starting point as it also provides a rationale for the laws and traditions. A modern classic since its publication in 1972, Rabbi Hayim Halevy Donin expanded on two portions of this book by writting "To Raise a Jewish Child: A Guide for Parents" and "To Pray as a Jew: A Guide to the Prayer Book and the Synagogue Service".
