Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Jeff Winston, forty-three, didn't know he was a replayer until he died and woke up twenty-five years younger in his college dorm room; he lived another life. And died again. And lived again and died again — in a continuous twenty-five-year cycle — each time starting from scratch at the age of eighteen to reclaim lost loves, remedy past mistakes, or make a fortune in the stock market. A novel of gripping adventure, romance, and fascinating speculation on the nature of time, Replay asks the question: "What if you could live your life over again?"

Review:

"[An] intriguing fantasy adventure....Grimwood has transcended genre with this carefully observed, literate and original story." Publishers Weekly

Review:

"Replay features one of the more thorough explorations of a theme one might ever hope to find. [The book] challenges us to take fresh views of that inexorable force, time." David Brin, The Los Angeles Times

Review:

"This delightful and completely engrossing story will appeal to a wide variety of readers." Library Journal

Review:

"One of the freshest, most engaging novels I've read in a long time." Dean Koontz

Review:

"An intriguing examination of the meaning and nature of time....Superb writing, unexpected twists and careful attention to detail." The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Synopsis:

In 1988 43-year-old Jeff Winston died of a heart attack. But then he awoke, and it was 1963; Jeff was 18 all over again, his memory of the next two decades intact. This time around Jeff would gain all the power and wealth he never had before. This time around he'd know how to do it right...until next time.

Always fun to read something from two decades ago. Replay by Ken Grimwood offers a 1980s version of the current ultra-popular multi-dimensional, multi-lives theme.

So good I read it about 10 years ago, and recently found it on Powell's booklist, so I bought it again!

When a friend loaned me this book, I didn't think I would like it much. Ho hum. A story about a guy who dies over and over. But within a few pages, the author changed my mind. :) What sounds like a rather trite story line is anything but. The author adds some new twists to questions that are anything but new, and his writing style is enjoyable. Try this book! You will like it. Really :)
