Publisher Comments:

Meet Hermux Tantamoq, a "truly captivating hero" (Philadelphia Inquirer).

Hermux is a mouse who fixes watches by day and spends quiet evenings at home with his pet ladybug. Then his life is forever changed by the appearance of Linka Perflinger — daredevil, aviatrix and adventuress. When she suddenly disappears, Hermux sets out to find her.

What has happened to Ms. Perflinger? Who is the mysterious Dr. Mennus, and how is he connected with Tucka Mertslin, the eccentric cosmetics tycoon? Hermux must be daring and vigilant — tall orders for a small mouse! But he rises to the occasion. And nearly breaks our hearts in the process.

Michael Hoeye's rich and rewarding story — full of action and adventure, kindhearted heroes and dastardly villains — has the wit and grace to make it the must-read of our time.

Review:

"[A] fur-raising mystery that will delight fantasy lovers....The book is structured as tongue-in-cheek Dickens, and its short chapters with suspenseful endings make it a natural for reading aloud..." Frances Bradburn, Booklist (Starred Review)

Review:

"Hoeye is inventive and an excellent writer. He has created in Hermux an unlikely, but truly captivating hero." Philadelphia Inquirer

Review:

"[The] galloping plot, evocative descriptions and exuberantly sophisticated wit keep the pages rapidly turning." Publishers Weekly

Review:

"[A]uthor Hoeye creates a homey, familiar, nonthreatening little world...a world that's engagingly contemporary and old-fashioned at once..." Zofia Smardz, The Washington Post Book World

Review:

"The snappy, sophisticated writing makes this adventure a delight from start to finish....Hoeye's novel is a delightful romp for imaginative readers and fantasy fans." Marian Rafal, VOYA

Review:

"Suspense and fantasy are intertwined in this story, which once started is difficult to put down. Hoeye mixes an interesting cast of characters with a multileveled story that will keep readers' attention from beginning to end." School Library Journal

Review:

"Hermux is a skillfully drawn protagonist, concocted with just the right portions of humor, sympathy, and intelligence. Fans of anthropomorphic fiction will be clamoring for more." Christopher Moning, Children's Literature

Synopsis:

The surprise hit and finalist for the Book Sense Book of the Year Award is now in paperback. Hermux Tantamoq is a watch repair-mouse who finds himself in the middle of intrigue and adventure when the lovely and mysterious Linka Perflinger drops a watch off at his shop and then disappears.

Synopsis:

Hermux Tantamoq is an average mouse who works in his watch shop by day and spends his evenings at home with Terfle, his pet ladybug. Nothing extraordinary has ever happened to him. That changes the day Linka Perflinger, daredevil aviatrix, drops off her watch to be repaired...and steals his heart. When a shady-looking rat tries to claim Linka's watch, Hermux knows that something is dreadfully wrong. Before long, Hermux is entangled in the convoluted schemes of an eccentric cosmetics tycoon, a sinister plastic surgeon, and a squad of ruthless lab rats. This winsome, sophisticated animal adventure has won over readers across America.

I really enjoyed the book. It wasn't too scary or suspenseful (just how I like 'em) and there was a little mousey romance going on. I liked it.
