Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Seven interconnected Easy Rawlins stories from bestselling, award-winning mystery writer Walter Mosley in a single, sure-to-be-classic volume. Walter Mosley's Easy Rawlins mysteries have endeared him to legions of readers and won critical adulation — Devil in a Blue Dress was named one of the "100 Favorite Mysteries of the Century" by the Independent Mystery Booksellers Association.

This handsome collection contains seven interconnected stories, six of which were included in the reissued Easy Rawlins mysteries, plus one new bonus story, "Amber Gate." Ezekiel Rawlins now has a steady job as senior head custodian of Sojourner Truth High School, a nice house with a garden, a loving woman, and children. He counts the blessings of his law-abiding life, but is "nowhere near happy." Easy mourns the loss of his best friend, Mouse, and though he tries to leave the street life behind, he still finds himself trading favors and investigating cases. People who can't depend on the law to solve their problems seek out Easy. A man's daughter runs off with his employee. A beautiful woman turns up dead and the man who loved her is wrongly accused. Easy even becomes party to a killing that the police might call murder. Six Easy Pieces is a perfect introduction to the irresistible world of Easy Rawlins, and an absolute must-have for fans.

Review:

"Mosley presents seven stories...that form a seamless, episodic novel....Six Easy Pieces balances suspects, false starts and red herrings with unforgettable descriptions of life before civil rights." Marc Flores, USA Today

Review:

"Mosley's prose remains delectably hard-boiled....Six Easy Pieces marks an overdue return to solid storytelling form. (Grade: A-)" Bruce Fretts, Entertainment Weekly

Review:

"[I]t's a special pleasure to have [these stories] all gathered together....Despite the repetition, readers who missed these meaty, powerful stories in their paperback debuts will gobble them up at one sitting." Kirkus Reviews

Review:

"Mosley is as fine as ever...writing in a style so simple that it deceives us into thinking writing great fiction is as easy as putting one foot in front of the other. It's not, but turning these pages is." Keir Graff, Booklist

Review:

"Mosley's a master. Expect some surprises in each story and in Easy's life, making Six Easy Pieces the perfect sum of its parts." The Plain Dealer (Cleveland)

Synopsis:

Easy should be living a contented life, with steady work as senior head custodian of Sojourner Truth High School, and a loving family. But happiness is as elusive for Easy as smoke in shadows. Trading favors and investigating cases of arson, murder, missing persons, and false accusations, it's hard to steer clear of trouble.
