Review:

"Preston has done it again. The thriller elements mix well with the science aspects of the story, and the author makes even the hard-to-grasp concepts easy to understand." Library Journal

Review:

"A brilliantly executed thriller — exciting, fascinating, and thought-provoking.... Wild and wonderful reading fun! A highly original and yet eerily plausible premise." Whitley Strieber, New York Times bestselling author of Critical Mass

Review:

"Brilliant...full of huge ideas, but intensely human, too, and intensely suspenseful." Lee Child

Synopsis:

From the New York Times-bestselling author of Blasphemy comes an apocalyptic thriller in the tradition of The Andromeda Strain. "An unusually alarming and thoughtful thriller...clever and terrifying." Kirkus Reviews

'Impact' starts out with Wyman Ford being sent on a secret expedition to Cambodia. At the same time a brilliant meteor lights up the Maine Coast. In a seemingly unrelated manner a scientist at the National Propulsion Facility discovers a source of gamma rays in the outer solar system from a disk his boss mailed to him before he is murdered. Are all these isolated incidents or related? The book unfolds in a very interesting fashion answering this question and kept me enthralled. There are other rather unsavory characters introduced from time to time and I was really concerned that they may get what they wanted . The book is a very interesting sci-fi thriller.

You would think after all of the good books from Douglas Preston that he might produce a novel that was not up to par, or in other words, a stinker. I have yet to read a "stinker" from Douglas Preston, because Impact was another exciting and thrilling installment to add to my book collection. I really enjoy the Wyman Ford character, he is interesting and mysterious. I hope that he will be used in future novels, just as Agent Pendergast is used often in the Preston and Child novels. The best part about Preston novels is the use of science in making the story. It makes for an intelligent novel while still being highly readable. Kindle users, please read the book before you bash it. You are bashing an excellent book that is well worth your time.
