Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

The first book to properly explore gothic culture in the modern world. Examining it from a pop and sub-cultural perspective, the book examines and identifies hidden gems from the underground alongside better known mainstream manifestations, looking at all facets of the culture including horror comics, fetish clubs, goth rock superstars and vampire cultists.

Synopsis:

This lavishly illustrated book looks at Goth from both a pop and subculture perspective. Each chapter deals with a different artistic or cultural phenomenon--such as literature, photography, trash Goth, and the femme fatale--followed by an essay on specific aspects of the Goth aesthetic. 70 photos.

Fandom and pop culture are often misconsidered by critics and scholars, if not always. And it's pretty hard to study subcultures without a guide like this.

Goth Chic is been written with earnesty, a well-documented bibliography, and the fair amount of irony to describe one of the most complexes phenomena in Pop Culture. An inspiring, enjoyable _and spooky book!
