Synopsis:

Travel fifty years back to a more innocent time. And with the naivete of that period and midwestern place, more common than perhaps now, was boundless, lasting romance. Young Wisconsin school teacher Hope Brown meets handsome Alfred Gustav in a Norwegian church choir and they fall madly in love. It's burdened when Alfred has to leave their new hearth and home for military service in the Korean War. This book is mainly the letters between Alfred overseas in the Army and Hope back in the States. Surely there could be no more salient example than Hope and Alfred of absence making the heart grow fonder.
