An absolutely breathtaking and compelling read! Easy to follow, Ontko takes us on a guided tour through Oregon's much-ignored past, revealing much that has been glazed over by the passage of time and the writers of non-verbal histories.

Rock Carver, February 22, 2007 (view all comments by Rock Carver)
This is a truly ground breaking and visionary book.
It will be a controversial book as it introduces information about tribes and which were which, that is going to make people sit up and take notice as it is very different in its information to anything that came before it. It has information on the white mans entry into the Western United States that is so new, yet so documented, that it will confound scholars who have been telling us different "facts" for years and have been so wrong.
This is an amazing accomplishment of a lifetime of research, and interviews, and will no doubt be included in the curiculum of any school which truly wants to show the Oregon country as it really was in all forms of people, animals, and geographic criteria.
A series of books which should be on every History buffs shelf.
