Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

For Judge Knott, the case before her seems to be an ordinary misdemeanor--except that the personal property that's been destroyed is an inflatable carnival ride. When the carnival comes to her own town a few weeks later, Deborah soon discovers there's nothing ordinary about this rag-tag collection of rides and games.

I have read about four of the Deborah Knott books in this series and I like them. Deborah is a normal, smart, independent woman with a huge family - who are also mostly normal. I get tired of protagonists being hounded by annoying family or friends and never saying "no" or "but out". This family is not like that; yes some of them "but-in" but Deborah sets up normal boundaries and doesn't let them run her. I like the relationships and I usually cannot figure out the mystery before the end. Also she doesn't normally do anything obviously stupid that puts her in danger. This one, of the four I've read so far, is the best. It is well written and there is no obvious "bad guy". All of the characters are interesting and real. Also the men in Deborah's life don't spend all of their time telling her to keep out of the current murder etc. Try this book - you may get hooked on the Knott family! I usually learn something too. This time about carnivals.
