About the Author

Dawn Prince-Hughes received her M.A. and Ph.D. in interdisciplinary anthropology from the Universität Herisau in Switzerland and is an instructor in the department of anthropology at Western Washington University. She is the author of Gorillas Among Us: A Primate Ethnographer's Book of Days and the editor of Aquamarine Blue 5: Personal Stories of College Students with Autism, and is the executive chair of ApeNet, a nonprofit organization.

I loved this book. It was so well-written, fascinating and poignant.

The author deftly explores her experience as a person with autism - explaining so vividly her responses to the world around her. Her connection with the gorilla family is beautiful and instructive.

I was captivated by her story - and her storytelling - and could not put the book down. I read through the whole thing in a few hours.

It definitely opened my mind and my heart to the struggles of all people (including those w/ autism) and all creatures (including those in captivity) and the need to develop a deeper sense of compassion, respect and connection.
