Publisher Comments:

A progressive-minded American everywoman, a child of the 60s now entering midlife, takes lessons in political commitment and personal fulfillment from her spiritual mentor, Louisa May Alcott.

This engaging, enjoyably educational and inventive book has beautifully epitomized the genre it created, the bio-memoir. Kit Bakke's first book has a remarkable way of introducing a unique structure and century-spanning content, while remaining topical and relevant to today's reader. Though Bakke writes that the book is intended to help aging revolutionaries maintain their dedication to self, community and world improvement, this book is an ideal read for people of any age. The insight into the transcendentalist neighborhood that Louisa May Alcott grew up in is fascinating with wonderful humanizing anecdotes about Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau. I strongly recommend Miss Alcott?s Email to anyone with an interest in history, social change and women who have ignored societal restraints, thereby strengthening the opposition to such damaging conventions as slavery and unjust war.
