Steal This Computer Book 3RD Edition What Theyby Wally Wang
Synopses & Reviews
This offbeat, non-technical book looks at what hackers do, how they do it, and how you can protect yourself. The third edition of this bestseller (over 150,000 copies sold) adopts the same informative, irreverent, and entertaining style that made the first two editions a huge success. Thoroughly updated, this edition also covers rootkits, spyware, web bugs, identity theft, hacktivism, wireless hacking (wardriving), biometrics, and firewalls.
Book News Annotation:
Wang is a computer writer who works a day job (at night) as a stand-up comic. He does not detail technical details about computer hacking<-- >whether in the popular sense of breaking into someone else's system or in the insiders' sense of exploring, extending boundaries, and understanding. Rather, he talks about the philosophy and implications of computer hacking. Thinking like a hacker, he says, will introduce readers to new worlds, not all of which are comfortable. Annotation (c)2003 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
