Publisher Comments:

Maggie McCarthy is more than ready to be just a regular teen. Ever since her mother's death, Maggie has found herself acting as a mother to her two younger brothers and serving as the resident housekeeper. All of that changes after she rescues a classmate and rival from sexual assault and becomes an accidental hero and celebrity at her high school. Now Maggie must reconcile popularity with true friendship, deal with the fallout of sexual abuse, and redefine her place in the family. And with the help of an unlikely friend, Maggie begins to discover God's grace in her life. Author Michelle Buckman offers an edgy, realistic story for teen girls that honestly explores some of the most challenging issues facing today's youth. Buckman balances tough themes with the hope found in God alone, leading readers to embrace their faith in everyday life.

Synopsis:

After Maggie rescues a classmate from an assault, she becomes a celebrity at school. Now she must reconcile popularity with true friendship, deal with the fallout of abuse, and redefine her place in her family.

Synopsis:

While most girls are going to parties, Maggie is busy acting as mother and housewife to her two brothers and father. When she turns 16, Maggie hopes it will be a great year. But then she hears a noise in the woods that takes her on a path that changes her life forever.

Synopsis:

Maggie isn’t exactly popular. In fact, she’s pretty much invisible. While most girls are going to parties with boyfriends, she’s busy acting as mother and housewife to her two brothers and father. But what she really wants is to be noticed by her brother’s friend Webb. Unfortunately, he’s dating the school’s hottest cheerleader.

When her sixteenth birthday comes along, Maggie makes a wish: Please, Lord, let sixteen be a great year; let me be pretty and popular and let Webb . . . it’s too big a dream to even put the rest into words. Then she hears a noise in the woods that she can’t ignore and takes a path that changes her life forever.

Buckman?s wholesome creative work is exceptional because the reality based entertainment presents emotionally charged slices of current adolescent problems faced by some single parent families along with other life issues, such as teen rape with good decision-making and coping skills modeled by her characters. Books that show teen characters working through uncontrollable life events demonstrating appropriate choices and behaviors, as well as how to get help if the reader finds themselves in a similar situation is timely for adolescents above the age of sixteen.

A great educational tool for professionals to use to discuss significant real life issues that teens face today.

Reviewer recommends this book for teens above the age of sixteen, Educators, Pastors, Libraries, and Mental Health professionals.
