Under Western Eyes has been described as one of Conrad's most acutely personal and most distinctly Modernist novels. Conrad's story is a bit eerie to read now: one of the main themes is that 'the West' will never understand Eastern terrorists (in the novel, Russian revolutionaries). Compelling novel.
