Madeline's Christmas (Picture Puffin Books)
by Ludwig Bemelmans

Madeline's Christmas (Picture Puffin Books) Cover

Synopses & Reviews

From Powells.com:

Ludwig Bemelmans published his first children's book, Madeline, in 1939. Reader's tall and small so loved his diminutive heroine — so fearless, so fetching, so French — Bemelmans wrote and illustrated four sequels starring his puerile Parisian. When McCall's magazine commisioned Bemelmans to create an insert for their 1956 Christmas issue, Madeline was already a superstar of children's literature. Restored and published in book form in 1985, Madeline's Christmas combines the same lighthearted storytelling and whimsical illustration that first made Madeline one of the most recognizable characters of the twentieth century. Farley, Powells.com

Publisher Comments:

It's the night before Christmas and everyone is sick in bed. All except brave Madeline, who is up and about and feeling just fine. Taking care of eleven little girls and Miss Clavel is hard work, but Madeline finds help from a magical merchant peddling flying carpets door-to-door. Now the girls are going on a Christmas journey that will surely make them forget their sniffles and sneezes. Great for gift-giving and group sharing, Madeline's Christmas now joins the five other books about Madeline as a deluxe, full-sized paperback.

Synopsis:

With everyone else sick in bed with a cold on Christmas Eve, it is up to Madeline to run the school and she finds a remarkable helper in a rug-selling magician. Full color.
