From New York Times Bestselling author Brent Weeks...

For Durzo Blint, assassination is an art-and he is the city's most accomplished artist.

For Azoth, survival is precarious. Something you never take for granted. As a guild rat, he's grown up in the slums, and learned to judge people quickly - and to take risks. Risks like apprenticing himself to Durzo Blint.

But to be accepted, Azoth must turn his back on his old life and embrace a new identity and name. As Kylar Stern, he must learn to navigate the assassins' world of dangerous politics and strange magics - and cultivate a flair for death.

Do yourself a favor- read this book. Excellent dark fantasy. Full of action, anti-heroes, moral dilemmas, and twists/turns. If you are a big fan of unicorns and dragons making sweet love magic manifested thru song then just walk away. If you want to quench your insatiable thirst for soul bruising, blood drenched, coming of age assassins packaged up in smart crash-cart induced writing then Weeks does not disappoint.

The first in Brent Weeks' Night Angel Trilogy, The Way of Shadows is a gripping read. Not for the feint of heart this book can be fairly brutal at times (especially in a large chunk of the early book that deals with children) but if you are undaunted you will be treated to an exciting tale of assassins (I'm sorry, wetboys) and sorcery.

In the past I’ve had issues with books that have children as main characters. They are usually written as mini-adults or innocent victims, many times without the emotional depth and development of adult characters. But I absolutely loved Azoth! There were many complicated moral dilemmas addressed in this book, and it was refreshing to read a new author who tackled these in unpredictable ways. The only reason I can't give this book five stars is a few stylistic issues, mainly that the basic country and society it takes place in was never well explained. But this is the first book of 3, so I'm hoping they only get better from here.
