Jesse Bullington: IMG Abash'd the Devil Stood

I don't believe in evil. It's a word I use, certainly, because words are shortcuts and we all take the short way round from time to time, but that's... Continue »

Publisher Comments:

One faerie, the last of her clan, must fight to complete her sacred duty

Whisper Silksinger is the last of the secret guardians of the Azazel, one of the powerful Djinn who dreamed the world into being. Relentlessly pursued by bloodthirsty devils, she flees to the city of Nazneen to restore the Azazel to his temple. At the same time, Hirik Mothmage is also on a secret quest, to find the Azazel and restore his disgraced clan's ancient honor.

And behind them all flies Magpie Windwitch, first champion of the new age of faeries, desperate to rescue Whisper and the Azazel alike before they fall in the clutches of a sinister hidden enemy.

Review:

"Equally adept at folding in both low humor and elevated imagery and language, Taylor expertly weaves multiple story lines into another ripping yarn." Kirkus Reviews

Review:

"This is series fantasy at its best: readers who loved Blackbringer (Putnam, 2007) will certainly gobble up this installment." School Library Journal

Review:

"[T]his sprawling segment of the Dreamdark saga continues to deliver a vibrant alternative faerie world with blood, black magic, and the iconic opposition of good and evil." Booklist

About the Author

Laini Taylor had the good luck to grow up traveling, though perhaps not as much as Magpie Windwitch. She finally put down roots in Portland, Oregon, where she lives with her husband, artist Jim Di Bartolo, and their dog Leroy. She spends her time drinking coffee, making art, and obsessively futzing with words.

Silksinger is a beautiful story; full of fierce and wonderful faeries fighting for what they believe in, dangerous and terrible characters, characters who through ignorance or bravado make matters much worse, and a setting that is both fully realized and fuzzy around the edges as all good faerie stories should be. Read along and root for Whisper, Hirik and Magpie Windwitch while booing and hissing at the evildoers who only care about their own comforts.
