Publisher Comments:

Want to make a pop-up book? Heres everything you need to assemble four amazing 3-D creations—plus a behind-the-scenes guide to key techniques.

Do you delight in seeing an ingenious pop-up "pop" but feel utterly daunted at the thought of making one yourself? Get your hands on this all-in-one guide and kit, combining the simplest of instructions and the coolest of components for creating a pop-up dragon, castle, jungle scenario, and Frankenstein scene. Theres no need for scissors or glue, thanks to press-out, pre-scored, peel-off sticky-back pieces. And for those inspired to learn more, theres also a guide to basic folds and techniques—plus a sample pop-up robot showing how those techniques may be used. The kits eye-popping features include a roaring dragon, a medieval castle, Frankensteins laboratory, and a jungle scene full of animals for you to assemble.

Review:

"Here's a pop-up book to rival Kramer's coffee-table book about coffee-table books. First outlining the basic building blocks of pop-up engineering (types of folds, mechanics like noisemakers and spirals), the book then uses the example of a pop-up robot to demonstrate how such components work together. The remaining sections offer four illustrated scenes, into which punch-out pop-up elements can be incorporated. Detailed directions show how to attach a dragon's pop-up head onto its body; erect a medieval castle; insert Frankenstein's monster into the lab; and create a pop-up jungle. Completing the pop-ups will be tricky for younger readers (the difficulty level increases with each project) but the end result should be as gratifying as it is illuminating. Ages 7 — up. (Oct.)" This book makes understanding and creating a pop-up very easy for almost anyone of any age. It is the perfect bridge between not ever making a pop-up and the how to make a pop-up books from scratch, which can seem very comfusing. Here all the pieces are already cut out and ready to assemble and simple instructions. Gosh! and with on glue needed. The pop-ups are more advanced that just simple one piece pop-ups. Such as,the first pop-up, Frankenstein, is already assembled and has a zig zag cut piece which when you open the page emits a sound as another piece slides over the zig zag. You get to create this same sound producing pop-up technique later in the book. Also, this book is made of a card stock paper which when all the pop-ups are created leaves one with a delightful book for years to come.
