Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Experimentation with armored cars by the American military goes back to 1898. The outbreak of World War I in Europe resulted in the construction of a wide variety of armored cars. None of them, however, deployed to Europe. At the beginning of World War II, British experience in the desert against Rommel served to renew American interest in the armored car. After the war, demand for lightly armored vehicles waned as the army focused on heavily armored tanks to combat the Soviet Union on the plains of central Europe.

Today, the armored car is once again back in favor as the Marine Corps and U.S. Army look for economical solutions for the third-world battle-fields of today and tomorrow.
