Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Written to introduce readers to Permaculture concepts and design strategies.

Topics include: energy efficient site analysis, planning and design methods, house placement, design for temperate, dry-land and tropical regions, urban Permaculture garden layouts, land access and community funding systems, chicken and pig forage systems, orchards and home wood lots, how to influence micro-climate and a large section on selected plant species with climatic tolerances, heights and uses.

Abundantly illustrated with detailed diagrams and line drawings throughout. Includes a listing of useful Permaculture plants with descriptions and uses, and a further species list in useful categories.

The book is set out as a step-by-step introduction to Permaculture with detailed instructions. Using simple language it describes the range of Permaculture for general consumption. Very little content of Mollison's other books are found within Introduction to Permaculture.

Review:

"Excellent introduction to the science of Permaculture. This book has lots of ideas for you to start your own design to the permaculture world." Garden Community (www.gardencom.com)

Synopsis:

The book that started it all, this revised edition of a classic weaves together philosophies of land-use, hands-on techniques of soil, agricultural, and livestock management, earth-friendly irrigation, and more, to form a very clear and inspiring picture of how sustainable agriculture not only can but must be made to work. Simple line illustrations throughout.

Introduction to Permaculture is a great foundation for permaculture study. It's not a substitute for The Designer's Manual--it's an introduction. While Mollison's epic tome The Permaculture Designer's Manual may seem less digestible to some, this book is a quick focused read.

If you are not sure if Mollison's style is for you--this book is a good way to find out if it works for you.

All of the concepts are presented clearly with lots of illustrations. It's a book to read and reference for years to come.

This sort of book should be in everyone's library. We need to respect the land we live from, and the waters that supply them. It is not hard to plant something for our food as well as ornamental plants. This is an inspiration for a better world. I am trying to give them as Birthday presents.
