Hereville: How Mirka Got Her Sword (Hereville)by Barry Deutsch
Synopses & Reviews
Redandrsquo;s Planet, an intergalactic graphic novel fantasy series from award-winning cartoonist Eddie Pittman (writer/story artist for Disneyandrsquo;s hit TV series Phineas and Ferb), is a nonstop adventure with a unique cast of characters unlike any youandrsquo;ve ever seen before.
Meet Red, a quirky, headstrong 10-year-old who longs to live in her own perfect paradise far away from her annoying foster family. But when a UFO mistakenly kidnaps her, Red finds herself farther away than she could have possibly imaginedandmdash;across the galaxy and aboard an enormous spaceship owned by the Aquilari, an ancient creature with a taste for rare and unusual treasures. Before Red can be discovered as a stowaway, the great ship crashes on a small deserted planet, leaving her marooned with a menagerie of misfit aliens. With her newfound friend, a small gray alien named Tawee, Red must find a way to survive the hostile castaways, evade the ravenous wildlife, and contend with Goose, the planetandrsquo;s grumpy, felinoid custodian. Surely this canandrsquo;t be the paradise sheandrsquo;s been hoping for.
Fans of Mike Maihackandrsquo;s Cleopatra in Space and Ben Hatkeandrsquo;s Zita the Spacegirl will embrace Redandrsquo;s Planet, a boldly illustrated and imaginative new series for readers of all ages.
Welcome back to Hereville, where Mirka, the worldandrsquo;s first time-traveling, monster-fighting Orthodox Jewish girl, faces her greatest challenge yet: babysitting! When Mirka pushes her sister into a stream, they both get in too deep with an angry magic fish. No matter how hard Mirka fights this fish-out-of-water, it gets stronger and strongerandmdash;and itandrsquo;s out for revenge. Mirka is in over her head, and this time, her whole family is on the line! When the fish kidnaps Layele, Mirka must find a way to save her little sister, and the clues she needs are hidden in her stepmother Frumaandrsquo;s past. Mixing adventure, cultural traditions, squabbling siblings, and preteen commotion, Hereville: How Mirka Caught a Fish is sure to captivate readers with its exciting visuals and indomitable heroine.
Welcome to Hereville, home of the first-ever wisecracking, adventure-loving, sword-wielding Orthodox Jewish heroine. A delightful mix of fantasy, adventure, cultural traditions, and preteen commotion, this fun, quirky graphic novel series will captivate middle-school readers with its exciting visuals and entertaining new heroine.
Spunky, strong-willed eleven-year-old Mirka Herschberg isnt interested in knitting lessons from her stepmother, or how-to-find-a-husband advice from her sister, or you-better-not warnings from her brother. Theres only one thing she does want: to fight dragons!
Granted, no dragons have been breathing fire around Hereville, the Orthodox Jewish community where Mirka lives, but that doesnt stop the plucky girl from honing her skills. She fearlessly stands up to local bullies. She battles a very large, very menacing pig. And she boldly accepts a challenge from a mysterious witch, a challenge that could bring Mirka her hearts desire: a dragon-slaying sword! All she has to do is find—and outwit—the giant troll whos got it!
